Phasics Adaptive Optics Solutions Empowering the Ultra-Intense Laser Platform

Aug. 8, 2025

Adaptive Optics by Phasics: Precision Beam Control for High-Impact Science

Phasics implements state-of-the-art adaptive optics (AO) solution, precisely engineered for demanding high-energy and high-vacuum environments. A great example is the system that was developed and delivered for the 3PW beam line of the ZEUS laser facility.

The system includes:

  • The Phasics SID4 wavefront sensor, offering non-intrusive, real-time measurements with high resolution and dynamic range
  • The OASys closed-loop software, developed in-house by Phasics, ensuring seamless, real-time communication between the wavefront sensor and the deformable mirror for optimal correction and beam quality
  • A 12-inch deformable mirror, vacuum-compatible and designed for high-quality wavefront correction in ultrafast, high-intensity beamlines

This integrated solution ensures exceptional beam stability and focusing precision, even under the most extreme experimental conditions.

Trusted Expertise in Adaptive Optics for High-Energy Lasers

Phasics brings deep expertise in designing and integrating adaptive optics systems for complex laser infrastructures. Our experience with large-aperture deformable mirrors and real-time, high-stability control software makes us a trusted partner in high-energy physics facilities worldwide.

Researchers using Phasics adaptive optics systems benefit from high-precision wavefront correction and stable system performance. These features contribute to more consistent experimental conditions and facilitate progress in fields such as ultrafast imaging and laser-driven particle acceleration.

Partnering for the Future of Scientific Discovery

Phasics is proud to support ZEUS and other leading laser research platforms with adaptive optics technology that meets the most demanding scientific requirements. We are committed to continued collaboration with laboratories worldwide, helping to expand the role of adaptive optics in next-generation experiments.

ZEUS: Pushing the Frontiers of High-Field Physics

At the forefront of high-field science, the Zettawatt-Equivalent Ultrashort Pulse Laser System (ZEUS) is one of the world's most advanced ultra-intense laser platforms. Designed for exploring extreme physical conditions, ZEUS enables groundbreaking research in quantum electrodynamics (QED)high-energy particle acceleration, and phenomena resembling those of the early universe.

Leveraging femtosecond pulse compression, ZEUS delivers peak powers exceeding 3 petawatts with pulse durations as short as 25 femtoseconds. Its architecture incorporates Ti:Sapphire amplification and chirped pulse amplification (CPA), with four successive amplification stages and a custom vacuum compression chamber. A distinctive multi-beam splitting configuration allows ZEUS to deliver intense laser pulses simultaneously to multiple experimental areas, maximizing throughput and versatility across research programs.
